My day started with a lovely surprise, the arrival of my suite mate, Angela Chatwick. She rang the door bell a little after 9:00 am. She did so instead of walking right in,because she didn't want to startle me.( Very considerate.) I think I must surely have startled her, since I answered the door in my bathrobe, not having yet wiped off all the black mascara that had migrated to under my eyes. But I got a big hug as I welcomed her. She is a delightful young woman with the most gorgeous blue eyes. It was evident from the start that we will get along famously.Angela is from Perth and is a primary school teacher. She is working on a degree in educational law and as an exchange student will be able to take courses at the University of Limerick that she is able to get at home.
Angela and I spent a good portion of the afternoon together. After a month I know my way around and so I was able to give her a mini tour of campus and help her find the International Studies Office to sort out a few things. We enjoyed a nice lunch, and a long walk that was perhaps a little too ambitious for her first day. She has been resting ever since we returned. I think its a shock to the system sometimes, not just to the long trip, but to come to a totally unknown place with no knowledge of who you will meet or where you are going. I was glad that when I came to Limerick last March, that I took the opportunity to get a feel for the area, and I have been here for a month now and so I feel quite familiar with at least the immediate surroundings. At any rate I am thrilled to be sharing the apartment with such a lovely person, and I am happy for the company, though I do just fine on my own. We are already planning some weekend day trips. Of course much will dependent upon our work loads. Classes begin for Angela on Monday and Tuesday for me. I have had a very relaxed month basically following my own body rhythms, with few appointments and no commitments or deadlines. Soon I will be back on a schedule and I am ready.
That's my report from Glocca Morra. Sending love.
