It is now 9:00 p.m. and I am settled into temporary quarters on campus. I will be here for three weeks until my two-bedroom apartment becomes available. All the student accommodations at the University of Limerick are apartment style. There are five Villages across campus and the one I am living in and where I will remain is Thomond Village. It is actually in County Clare, not County Limerick.
For now I have two roommates who I have not yet met. When I move on August 26, to permanent quarters I will have only one. The room is set up quite well, with a double bed, private bath and ample storage. Of course it looks like lots of room now, since I have no hangers and most everything is still in suitcases, but still it will work just fine.
I was surprised to observe myself getting such pleasure from unpacking:placing a few of my books on the shelf above my desk, organizing folders, placing pens in the desk drawer and so forth. I am listening to Vivaldi's Four Seasons, sipping tea as I write.
My window overlooks the Shannon River and I can hear the rush of the water from the tributary below. The banks are filled with wild flowers and there are tree=lined walking trails that are calling to me. In the distance I can see a Limerick City church spire and one of the campus pedestrian foot bridges looks like it leads to the castle ruins just to the south west. I am guessing about the direction you know. I meant it when I said my sense of direction was somewhat limited. But,I have never let that stop me. I will begin exploring my environment soon, sharing pictures along the way.
It's about 58 degrees right now, still plenty of daylight to enjoy the view. The wind is gently blowing through the trees and bending the long river grasses. It is green and I am in Ireland beginning life as a student, once again.
