Today Was the Day

Today was the day.I moved into my new apartment and I am happily ensconced in my new room, a bigger and better version of what I had. I was pleasantly surprised that the room is almost twice that of my previous room, which I also liked. I am on the top floor, with a great balcony off the kitchen and now I can see the not only the river as I look to the left, but distant mountains in the other direction. I am almost unpacked and have twice the storage space, which is a very good thing, since I have yet to receive my winter clothes. This apartment is likely where I will be until I graduate next August, that is unless I decide to stay on an extra year!

Today was also the day when I realized that I have an addiction. Well I mean besides to cookies. My addiction is to walking. I have essentially been walking every where for nearly four weeks and now I am finding that I can't wait to get out the door every morning and just walk and walk some more. The building has an elevator, but i am also walking the steps. As many of you know, this is an amazing transformation.

Today I took a video with my phone, which I had hoped to post here so you can see some of special places along river path that I especially love to pass through. The file was apparently too big to email,so tomorrow I will take my camera and try again. Each day I try to head in a new directions along the river to see what magic I might find. I am trying to be very conscious of my surroundings so I don't miss something special, like a large deep green holly bush growing wild along the bank; or very old tree camouflaged behind a cloak of ivy, hiding its massive trunk and lower branches. I have passed by these interesting fishing huts along the river. They are tiny cottages, each with a different colored or style of door and I noticed one today even has a thatched roof. I watched fisherman in their waders casting their lines into the shallows. I noticed as I peer over the nearby bridge, the most beautiful green river grasses gracefully undulating under the water's surface. I am sure this is where the fish are hiding. And I have more than once thought of how my dad would have loved being out on the water, casting his fly rod or trolling in his little boat. Tomorrow I will try the video again so you can come along with me on my walk. This is too beautiful not to share.

I am sending my love from UL aka Glocca Morra. I continue to feel blessed for the opportunity to be here.
