It is 10:00 p.m. and I have had a lovely day traveling to Kilarney via the same tour company I used this past weekend. We first stopped in the beautiful Adare Village replete with thatched cottages, 13th century church and castle and a lovely park in the middle of the village. Adare has a spectacular golf course and hotel and is filled with tourists this time of year. There was so much traffic in this little town it was impossible to cross the street. So I will wait until later this fall to find my way back again, when teh town is a bit sleepier and traffic is considerably dimished. But I suggest that you look it up on the Internet. Adare is all an Irish village should be and more.
Once we left Adare the tour bus traveled through beautifulyl lush green country with distant mountain views. There were a few stops along the way including a Victorian Estate called Muckross House and then on to our final destination, Kilarney. Kilarney is a bustling County Kerry town situated on a Kilarney Lake and and at the edge of the Kilarney National Park. A little wandering in an out of shops a, a cup of tea in a tea shop and then back on the bus to Limerick. This is a place worth another visit.
With such limited time the trip didn't really do County Kerry justice. There is much more to see in the way of natural wonders like the park vistas, boat cruises on the lake and a visit to the Gap of Dunloe in the western part of the park. I look forward to another journey in that direction some other day.
What made this trip particularly enjoyable were the other passengers I met; three women from Ohio, two retired teachers and one a college professor and a retired travel agent from Toronto. It was great to share the day with such nice companions.
Tomorrow is a work day. I am co-authoring a book with my dear friend, Bonnie Howell, on spiritual leadership and so I will be putting our notes into some kind of first draft format. Two of my text books are calling and the rest should arrive by the end of the week. Orientation is the 30th and 31st and then I will spend several days before classes begin at the nearby Glenstal Abbey where I will have the opportunity to hear the monks in evening chant and to spend some contemplative time preparing for my year of study.
So in preparation for all of this, I am heading to bed. Good bye for now from Glocca Morra.
