Robert Gass,EdD, is an amazing person, who has been involved with the study and teaching of chant and leading edge work in human consciousness and organizational change for over 30 years. His work synthesizes an unusually diverse background in humanistic psychology, organizational behavior, social change, business, music and spiritual studies.
His book, Chanting, Discovering Spirit in Sound, published in 1999, is a great resource for anyone who wants to gain an understanding of the effects and global nature of sound and chant. In the book's foreword by Don Campbell (The Mozart Effect), Mr. Campbell states that "chant is the music of the cosmic spheres and the natural expression of our own consciousness. Chant is not an obscure music ritual - it is an important tool used by people every where to heal their bodies, quiet their minds, and bring the sacred into their lives."
What Robert Gass brings to us in this book and his workshops and his music, is a more in depth understanding of all aspects of chant. His work has created an elaborate body of music recorded by his renowned singing group, Wings On Song, and available through Spring Hill Music and Amazon. You can also find new and used copies of his book on Amazon. A companion CD, Chanting, The Best of World Chant, is an award-winning collection of sacred chants from many of our world's cultures and traditions and a great first start to any collection.
